Lincs with India operates in India through a funding agreement with the Social Development & Education Trust, which is a registered charity with the Tamil Nadu State Government and holds the necessary permission from them to receive funds from abroad.
From a bank account in our name, SDET are only allowed to withdraw funds on our written authority for a specific purpose. These authorised withdrawals must be supported by valid receipts which we receive and check quarterly. On our annual visits, we verify that the work or services that we have authorised have been properly carried out.
The Managing Trustee of SDET is Ignatius Amalraj who holds a Masters Degree in Social Welfare. With a small dedicated staff, Ignatius is based just north of the town of Srivilliputhur near to the village of Chokkalampatti. He has named his settlement ‘Sdetland’.
At Sdetland are the SDET offices and the boys hostel, the staffroom, cookhouse and other ancillary buildings. We have funded the cost in 2007 of a new hostel building for the boys and the original building is now being used as a day centre for physically and mentally disabled children.
The girls hostel is in rented accommodation in the nearby village of Chokkalampatti. The girls have both a resident house mother and a cook. They live close to the Primary School at which both they and the boys from Sdetland attend.
For the most able students, further education is available at the High School in nearby Krishnankovil.
